Representation

The representation of gender in Captain America:Civil War reinforces some traditional gender stereotypes. Chris Evans who plays the main character, Captain America, is a stereotypical male hero. He is shown to be quite strong as there are clips of him fighting/working out, intelligent and herioc. When the worst comes, Captain America choses a separate side from his friend Iron Man, played by Robert Downey another stereotypical male action hero, which is associated with how action heroes usually have to make tough decisions as they are strong and independent.Overall, the trailer shows the great strength that males have as most of the heroes are males In addition, there is a lack of female heroes shown in the trailer. The Black Widow is shown but doesn't have as much screen time as another male hero which could suggest that dangerous situations such as battling against others isn't really a position for woman to be in. However, this representation of females doesn't fully reinforce the typical view of a woman in Hollywoood action cinema. Another group is shown which is quite authoritative which is the government. The government is portrayed as a  group who has different ideas to the Avengers (the heroes) which connotes an idea of good vs evil, the heroes don't follow the orders of the government.
